i'm going to try to only post this once, so here goes. today is adriana's 22nd birthday and there were so many things going on today my head is whirring. we had a convocation (guest speaker-ish) today featuring salman rushdie (!) and now everyone will be checking out all his books from the library. he's a very profound, yet entertaining speaker and was a more than welcome break from studying for midterms...blegh. this afternoon adriana was inducted to the "phi betta kappa" honor society for graduating seniors and i was her guest at the ceremony...it was a little odd (they have a secret handshake that nobody can seem to grasp, no pun intended), but there was yummy punch afterwards, so it wasn't an entirely lost cause ;) this weekend our school choirs and the orchestra are giving two concerts in honor of mozart's 250th and shostakovitch's 100th birthdays...we've been rehearsing since spring break and these past two weeks have been packed full...we have nearly 8 hours of rehearsal some weeks! eek! but all the hard work will pay off this weekend when we give the concerts. our parents are coming down to see the concerts and also celebrate our birthdays a bit...we're going to have a birthday tea like the queen...only slightly less grand...and with less people...and not in england. hmmm...nathan and auntie miriam wanted less schooly details, but sadly, that's all i have right now. no boys to speak of which is just as well because there never ceases to be heartbreak and drama on this campus. my brain is already on summer vacation which is very unfortunate because i will need it for my midterms coming up soon. anyway, i hope that everyone had a happy easter...we received several boxes of chocolate and jelly-bean/fortune-filled eggs in the mail, so we're having to run more often now ;) happy spring everyone! -daniella :)

Seattle had a major celebration of Shostakovitch. Unfortunately, the prices at Benaroya Hall were more for Microsoft millionaires.

More details on what tea was served at your High Tea. Lapsang Souchong? Or a recent import from China, "Snow Falling on Recycling Bin"?
